SECTION 3. Troubleshooting
Introduction
There are several circumstances in which your system may operate in an unexpected manner. Table 2
explains some of these circumstances and offers one or more workarounds for each situation. The Error
Code topic beginning on page 20 includes detail for both Platform Independent and HP-UX-specific
errors.
General Situations and Resolutions

Situation Resolution
During installation, the software agent
reports one or more files cannot be found in
depot package.
The software agent is very sensitive to TCP/IP configuration
errors. Ensure that TCP/IP is properly configured. For
example; ensure that the name service switch for hosts is
properly configured and that the IP address and name in
/etc/hosts is correct.
HBA Not Available After A Firmware Update.
On HP-UX 11.11 systems, if firmware is
updated on a dual channel HBA without
including boot BIOS that HBA is no longer
available when the system is rebooted.
Remove the HBA from the system, install it in a different type of
system, obtain the driver/utility for that system and add the boot
BIOS.
Many symbol referencing errors are seen
when recompiling the kernel. After installing
the Emulex HBA driver for HP-UX
successfully, the recompile of the kernel
fails. The error output lists "symbol" and
"protected symbol" referrencing errors. All of
the symbol names begin with lpfc.
If the lpfc.h file (included with the Emulex driver) is not installed
into the /usr/conf/space.h.d directory or is deleted, the kernel
rebuild process cannot cross-reference the symbols found in
the Emulex driver and so errors on each one that is found.
To correct this, perform the following steps:
1. Login with full root privileges.
2. Remove the Emulex driver with the 'swremove –x
autoreboot=true LPFC' command.
3. Reboot the system.
4. Reinstall the driver.
5. Rebuild the kernel with the following commands:
/usr/sbin/mk_kernel -o /system/vmunix
sync
6. Reboot the system.
Note: If the issue recurs, contact HP for support on using the
swinstall command and possible driver install issues when using
it.
